Ravens sign Punter Sam Koch to two-year extension

This week, the Baltimore Ravens extended punter Sam Koch through the 2022 season, according to Jamison Hensley of the Athletic. Koch, a veteran presence at 37 years old, will allocate $4,900,000 spread across to the 2022 season, including $3,150,000 of the earnings being guaranteed at the signing date. Since the year of 2006, Koch has been and will continue to be an excellent veteran specialist for Baltimore, as consistency (has yet to miss a start in his respective career) has been heavily valued by the Ravens.

Statistically speaking, Koch punted the football 40 times for 1,855 yards, accumulating an average of 46.4 yards per punt within the 2019 season. In addition, Out of Koch’s 40 kicks, 21 of them landed inside the opposing 20-yard line, all according to Football Database. Considering that the Ravens infrequently punted in their games, Koch put together a respectable season as seen through his success rate of placing balls inside the opposing 20-yard line (52.5%).

Alongside Koch, the Ravens have kept Justin Tucker under contract as he continues to be one of premier place kickers across the league, as Baltimore has continued to spend a considerable amount of money on their special teams unit. Next, the Ravens will look forward to the 2020 NFL Draft, where they will likely look to target linebackers, edge rushers, offensive lineman, and wide receivers in an attempt to provide for protection and weapons for 2019 NFL MVP, Lamar Jackson.
