Ravens sign linebacker Pernell McPhee

This afternoon, the Baltimore Ravens signed outside linebacker Pernell McPhee to a one-year contract, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

McPhee previously played for the Ravens from 2011-2014, then he went on to play with the Chicago Bears from 2015-2017. He was rostered on the Washington Redskins for the 2018-2019 season, before making his return to Baltimore.

This signing will likely bring some veteran leadership, as Terrell Suggs departed from Baltimore this past offseason, signing with the Arizona Cardinals on a one-year contract.

Through his career, McPhee has recorded 31 sacks and six forced fumbles, and he will add on to that as he will look to get plenty of playing time with Baltimore.

The Ravens could potentially use McPhee as a defensive end or defensive tackle like they did in the 2012 season. To this day, McPhee has participated in 109 games, including 23 where he was officially listed a starter. He played 60 career games with the Ravens.

McPhee, 30, has never been named to a Pro Bowl team but has been an overall productive talent for the Ravens, as he has accumulated 24 tackles for loss and 48 QB hits through his first four seasons in Baltimore.

In my opinion, the Ravens acquired McPhee to help bolster the veteran leadership and potentially be as productive as he once was in his first four years as a Raven.
