Ravens Sign Cornerback Ya-Sin

The Ravens have signed cornerback Rock Ya-Sin to a one-year deal worth up to $6 million dollars. Ya-Sin who turns 27 in May enters his fifth season after being taken in the second round by Indianapolis in 2019 out of Temple University.

The Ravens will be the third team for Ya-Sin since 2019 as he spent the first three seasons of his career with Indianapolis before being traded to the Las Vegas Raiders before the start of the 2022 season. Last season with Raiders Ya-Sin played in 11 games totaling 45 tackles and seven pass deflections.

In his career Ya-Sin has played in 52 games totaling 183 tackles, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, and 27 pass deflections.

The Ravens drafted Stanford cornerback Kyu Blu Kelly with their fifth round selection, but still needed to add another corner as they look for a replacement opposite of Marlon Humphrey. Ya-Sin visited the Ravens last month and with the Ravens only selecting one corner during the draft it appeared eminent that Ya-Sin would be in Baltimore soon. With the Ravens not signing Ya-Sin until after May 1st it will not count towards a compensatory pick for next years draft.

Ya-Sin will look to be a solid second corner as the Ravens also have Brandon Stephens and second year players Pepe Williams and Jalyn Armour-Davis, as well as the addition of rookie Kyu Blu Kelly, all of which will be in the mix to get play time as the second corner in 2023.

Ya-Sin adds a veteran presence to a young secondary group, but still the possibility remains that current free agent cornerback Marcus Peters could return for his fourth full season in Baltimore.
