Ravens report card versus the Redskins: The offense

IMG_0754.JPGThe Baltimore Ravens beat the Washington Redskins 23 to 17 in the third preseason game. The third preseason game is considered the dress rehearsal for the NFL season, so these grades should be taken more seriously than the previous two games.

Quarterbacks: Both Joe Flacco and Tyrod Taylor had great games. Combined, Flacco and Taylor completed 22 out of 32 passes for 218 yards and two touchdowns.  Both quarterbacks threw a touchdown pass and looked sharp but this was Taylor’s most impressive preseason game yet, with a 124.8 quarterback rating. The Ravens’ quarterbacks did not throw an interception all game.  Grade A+

Running backs: The running game took a step back this week as the Redskins held the Ravens to only 82 yards and a 2.9 yards per run average. Ray Rice did not get any snaps and Bernard Pierce left the game early with a concussion. Kyle Juszczyk was very impressive in the receiving game with five catches for 53 yards. The running game struggled in short yardage situations.  Grade C

Receivers:  Steve Smith, Sr. showed that he still had some life in his leg and was very impressive with six catches for 82 yards and a touchdown.  Smith, Sr. ran through a Redskins defender that had him wrapped up and he ran for a big gain. Torrey Smith also had a good game with four receptions and Deonte Thompson had a really good touchdown catch. Thompson has made some impressive plays this preseason and may have worked himself onto the roster.  Grade B+

Offensive Line: The offensive line looked like they needed some work. They simply cannot do what they did last season and they barely helped the running game, The line allowed three sacks and nearly more but the quarterbacks made some good plays to get away. The line is still a problem for the Ravens.  Grade C
