Ravens report card versus the Dolphins: The Defense and Special Teams

For those of you who missed it here is the report card for the offense.

Defensive line: This unit was sensational, the defensive line only allowed 22 rushing yards… total.  The defensive line also had constant pressure on Ryan Tannehill and sacked six times and had nine tackles for losses.  Haloti Ngata played very strong and held the Dolphins on short yardage situations.  Grade A

Linebackers: Terrell Suggs was a monster again and had three of the Ravens six sacks.  The Ravens do not win this game without Suggs performance.  Daryl Smith also had another great game with six tackles and a pass defensed.  Smith has tackled everything that has come his way.  Courtney Upshaw was also impressive and had his first sack of the season.  Grade A

Secondary:  The secondary allowed four plays of over 30 yards, not great but they played well for most of the game.  Jimmy Smith played well for most of the game but was beat a few times.  James Ihedigbo was also beat but had a near interception early in the game.  This unit has room to grow with Matt Elam playing better each game Grade C+

Special Teams: Sam Koch had two punts in which he would like to have back, Koch only averaged 34.2 yards a punt.  Justin Tucker was a perfect four for four on field goals, including the game winner.  Deonte Thompson and Tandon Doss both did great on returns.  Thompson had a long gain of 47 yards.  Grade B+

Coaching Staff: The Ravens were down at halftime, the coaching staff made some really good adjustments.  The offensive line played better in the second half and the Ravens started being able to run the ball.  The defense played well throughout the game.  Grade B
