Ravens report card: 11/4/2018

The Baltimore Ravens lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers 23 to 16 in a game that the Ravens defense let the Steelers have very long drives.

Quarterbacks:  Joe Flacco and Lamar Jackson both played well.  Flacco went 23 out of 37 for 206 yards and did not turn the ball over.  Jackson completed a pass but for the most part was shutdown in the run game.  The Ravens were limited in what they could do because they were missing their two starting tackles.  Grade C

Running backs:  Alex Collins only had 35 yards rushing against the Steelers, but did contribute a touchdown.  The Ravens had 61 yards on the ground, that will not get it done.  Grade C

Receivers:  Willie Snead had a comeback game with seven receptions.  John Brown who torched the Steelers in the first meeting was held to only 15 yards.  Chris Moore had a big 30 yard reception and needs to see more time.  Less drops by this unit.  Grade B

Offensive line:  This unit struggled, Orlando Brown Jr. played well and may have won the right tackle position.  The right side was solid but the left side was weak without Ronnie Stanley.  This unit needs to get healthy because it really limited what the Ravens could do.  Penalties were high for this unit as well.  Grade F

Overall offense:  The offense has struggled in the red zone and needed to capitalize on their few chances.  Grade C

Defensive line:  James Connor had 107 yards rushing, that is not Ravens defense.  This unit has two sacks in three games.  Grade D

Linebackers: The linebackers still struggled to cover tight ends.  Tight ends five receptions most of which came on critical downs.  Grade C

Secondary:  Jimmy Smith played much better than he did in previous games.  This unit has not been forcing turnovers and let up big plays.  Grade C

Overall Defense: This unit continues to struggle to get off the field on third and fourth downs and is hurting the offense.  Grade D

Special Teams:  Justin Tucker was perfect on the day and Cyrus Jones has been solid on punt returns.  Grade B

Coaching Staff:  The Ravens need to figure out the problems on defense.  Grade D

Final Thoughts:  The defense not the offense is the issue right now for the Ravens.  The Ravens defense has given up drives that lasted over ten minutes of playing time.
