Ravens report card: 10/20/2018

The Baltimore Ravens lost to the Carolina Panthers 36 to 21.  The Ravens had an early lead but the defense had no answers for the Panthers offense.

Quarterbacks:  Joe Flacco started off on fire but had two bad interceptions.  Flacco was hurt by bad offensive line play and wide receivers dropping passes.  Flacco completed 22 out of 39 passes for 192 yards a touchdown and two picks.  Lamar Jackson played well minus a bad throw to Willie Snead that was wide open early in the game.  Jackson got some garbage time and had a good drive including a touchdown pass to Hayden Hurst.  Grade D

Running backs:  Alex Collins had another fumble but also had a touchdown.  Buck Allen had a touchdown reception.  Allen did not have a rushing attempt.  Grade C

Receivers:  Willie Snead had five catches but along with that came two offensive pass interference penalties and a couple drops.  Mark Andrews had a drop but also had four receptions for 31 yards.  This unit needs to be more explosive.  Grade C

Offensive line:  A lot of miscommunication on the offensive line.  The Ravens only allowed two sacks but they were costly.  The Ravens are banged up up front and it started to show this game.  Grade D

Overall offense:  The Ravens offense struggled on all phases.  Grade D

Defensive line:  The Ravens defense gave up 154 yards on the ground and did not get a sack.  It starts up front on defense and this unit got beat badly.  Grade E

Linebackers:  The Ravens linebackers let the Panthers tight ends hurt them.  The Ravens left tight ends wide open in the middle of the field for big completions.  Grade D

Secondary:  This unit is really missing Marlon Humphrey.  Former Terp DJ Moore had five receptions for 90 yards and the Ravens struggled to cover him all game.  Jimmy Smith got beat a few times.  Grade D

Overall defense:  Ravens football is not giving up 36 points in a game.  Back to back weeks the Ravens defense has struggled.  Grade F

Special Teams:  Justin Tucker actually made all his extra point attempts.  Sam Koch for the second week in a row landed a punt on the one yard line.  Grade B

Coaching staff:  The Ravens scored on the first drive but the defense was clearly not ready to play.  Grade F
