Ravens Re-Sign Veteran Tony Jefferson

The Baltimore Ravens re-signed safety Tony Jefferson on Thursday. Jefferson returns to the Ravens after signing with the team in week 14 last season.

Jefferson spent three seasons with the Ravens from 2017-2019 where he started in every game for the Ravens until tearing his ACL in week five in 2019. The Ravens released Jefferson at the end of the 2019 season. Jefferson did not play for the entirety of the 2020 NFL season as he recovered from his injury.

Jefferson was signed by the San Francisco 49ers in 2021, before being placed on injured reserve and eventually released in August. Jefferson would be re-signed by the 49ers in October but would again be released in December after only appearing in two games.

Jefferson was quickly signed by the Ravens and placed on their practice squad, but would be elevated to the 53-man roster before the Ravens matchup against the Green Bay Packers.

Jefferson has a strong return to the Ravens totaling 17 tackles in three games, including 10 in week 16 against the Bengals. Jefferson has a strong locker room presence and will provide great leadership for a defense that looks to improve in 2022.
