Ravens pick up Smith's fifth-year option

88px-Jimmy_smith_2011_stadium_practiceThe Baltimore Ravens have picked up Jimmy Smith’s fifth year option so Smith will remain in purple and black for at least two more season.  The Ravens have expressed interest in signing Smith to a long-term deal and picking up the option gives them more time to do so.  The option is not cheap, the fifth-year option is worth about $6.5 million which shows just how much the Ravens want to keep Smith.

Smith played outstanding last season and proved to be a workhorse playing all 16 games.  Smith had two interceptions last season and over 50 tackles.

I think Smith’s best game came against the Detroit Lions when he shutdown Calvin Johnson.  This is a good move for the Ravens, it keeps a young player who is becoming one of their best defensive players in uniform.  Smith will be a free agent after the 2015 season.
