Ravens Activate Canady, Waive Matthews

This morning, the Baltimore Ravens released wide receiver Chris Matthews and brought back cornerback Maurice Canady off of injured reserve.

Matthews spent 2015 and 2017 with the Ravens and totaled 12 receptions for 122 yards and one touchdown. Although Matthews was a backup on offense, he made his mark as a gunner on the punt team, stopping balls inside the 20 and making seven tackles over his career as a Raven.

Canady, a second year corner from the University of Virginia, has spent the first half of the season on injured reserve due to a knee injury. Canady will most likely get some playing time this Sunday against Tennessee at the nickel position, likely meaning Ladarius Webb will slowly be receiving less and less snaps for the rest of the season.

It’s great seeing these injured Ravens slowly come back week after week and hopefully Canady can add to the already dominant secondary. But expect Matthews to come back if he falls through waivers, as he was a great gunner for the punt team.
