Ravens discipline strength and conditioning coach for conduct related to COVID-19 outbreak

The Baltimore Ravens hadn’t been too adversely affected by COVID-19 prior to this week but the entire organization has been dealing with an outbreak from the team staff members to the players since their round of testing following their Week 11 loss to the Tennessee Titans came in on Monday morning

The team announced on Wednesday that they have disciplined a member of the staff for the conduct related to the recent rapid uptick COVID-19 cases that have befallen the franchise and resulted in the postponement of their Thanksgiving matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, a member of the strength and conditioning coaching staff was punished for failing to report symptoms, not consistently wearing a mask/face covering or a contact tracking device, all of which might have caused the team’s outbreak of positive COVID tests.

On Wednesday the league announced that the Ravens Week 12 AFC North showdown with their archrivals that was originally supposed to be played on Thursday night in primetime will now take place on Sunday at 1:15 PM eastern standard time and will still be broadcasted on NBC.

Since Monday, the Ravens have had to place seven players on the Reserve/COVID-19 List because they either tested positive for the virus or were deemed high risk via contact tracing.

The total tally includes running backs Mark Ingram and J.K. Dobbins, defensive linemen Brandon Williams and Calais Campbell, outside linebacker Pernell McPhee and versatility offensive linemen Matt Skura and Patrick Mekari.

Baltimore and any other team that enters the league’s COVID-19 intensive protocol for the remainder of the season could face possible disciplinary action from the league office. By proactively disciplining the employee internally, the Ravens could reduce or completely avoid any potential punishment.
