Ravens defer season tickets to 2021 and reduce stadium capacity for 2020 season

With so much uncertainty surrounding the fate of the 2020 NFL regular season and what restrictions will be placed on organizations in terms of having fans in attendance at games this year, the Baltimore Ravens have decided to be proactive and precautious. On Wednesday, the team announced that 2020 season ticket holders will have their tickets deferred to the 2021 season since the likelihood of the team being able to have M&T Bank stadium filled to capacity due to the global pandemic caused by COVID-19 is very low.

Permanent Seat License (PSL) owners were notified via email of the announcement and that their seat locations would be offered for renewal in next year. In addition, credits for funds already paid for the 2020 season to date will be assigned to accounts that can be utilized for next season, future ticket purchases or refunds if requested. Purchases of single-game tickets for this season will also no longer be available and refunds will be paid back to fans that have already acquired them.

The Ravens also announced that in the event that fans are allowed into stadiums for games this year, in accordance with local and state government, they are allowed to have fans in attendance for home games but at a significantly reduced seating capacity. They are permitted to hold fewer than 14,000 fans per game based on social distancing guidelines and safety protocols for fans. Their recently renovated state of the art stadium can hold a maximum capacity of just over 71,000.

“To offer a proper level of safety for fans who want to attend games, a reduction in capacity is necessary,” stated Ravens president Dick Cass via the team’s official website. “We are disappointed that this will be a disruption for many ticket buyers, but we have an obligation to our fans and our community to keep M&T Bank Stadium as safe as possible.”

When an updated stadium seating manifests in set in stone, sales for individual game tickets for this upcoming season will resume, with PSL owners getting priority to purchase any in advance before the general public is permitted. The Ravens will keep fans updated as more information becomes available pertaining to single-game tickets and when they will be allowed to be bought and sold.

“With over 62,000 season tickets already sold, there is no equitable way to accommodate in a limited stadium capacity all PSL Owners who are interested in maintaining season tickets for 2020,” stated senior vice president of ticket sales and operations Baker Koppelman via the team’s official website. “Under these unusual circumstances, it’s best to simplify the ticket sales process and allow fans to decide which games they want to attend while giving our PSL Owners priority in accessing tickets.”
