Ravens thrilling comeback ends in heartbreak

The Baltimore Ravens lost an overtime thriller to the Chicago Bears, 27-24, breaking John Harbaugh’s perfect record against rookie quarterbacks. In what started out a pitiful performance, the Ravens somehow pulled luck out of you know where. Now these are all knee-jerk reactions, so take them with a grain of salt, but I have a ton of thoughts after today.

The loss of Jeremy Maclin has proven how big of a dumpster fire the offense is. The offense failed to score a touchdown all game, and looked like they ran the same three plays over and over. Alex Collins looks like a viable running back, but there’s no way this team can be a threat with these receivers.

Too many passes were dropped today, including two that were picked off returned deep into Ravens’ territory, one being a touchdown. It’s time to give Breshad Perriman the bust label. Yes, he did suffer a concussion on a dropped pass, which should have been a defenseless receiver call, but that is nowhere near an excuse for his poor play. The Ravens need to sign whoever the top free agent receiver is next season no matter the cost. They need a possession guy, instead of four speed guys.

Nobody should never blame the refs for a loss, but there were too many missed calls in the beginning of the game. Michael Campanaro took a helmet to the nether region after calling for a fair catch, the Perriman catch I stated earlier, and a missed pass interference deep in the red zone, where the Bears’ defender never played the ball.

It’s time to find and start developing Joe Flacco’s heir at quarterback. Flacco threw two interceptions, which neither were his fault, but he did a complete 180 compared to last week against Oakland. The Ravens need to draft a quarterback in the fourth or fifth round and do the same thing the Green Bay Packers did with Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers. Flacco had two years left on his contract, and with how he has been playing the past few years, there’s a strong possibility he will not return.

Barring a miracle, or having everybody healthy again, (let’s be realistic here) the Ravens are a .500 team. Hopefully with Rodgers out for the year, they can steal a win at Lambeau, but if they want to compete they cannot lose winnable games such as today. But on the bright side, so many teams are playing subpar, meaning we still have a shot. I know this is a long post and I’m ranting more than ever, but this team just pisses me off too much.
