Ravens are not worried about Lamar Jackson playing in snow

Florida Boy Vs. Mother Nature

A new narrative in the Lamar Jackson slander era has arisen….. Can he play in the snow?

After silencing the doubters and hushing many critical media pundits on Sunday with an impressive win over the Tennessee Titans in the Wildcard, reigning league MVP, Lamar Jackson, and the Baltimore Ravens look to reign triumphant once again this upcoming Saturday when they square off with Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills in the Divisional Round.

However, it seems like every time Jackson clears one hurdle of doubt and skepticism, another one arises. This time it is related to the elements in which their playoff matchup in upstate New York will be played.

Kickoff will be set at 8:15 ET and the current forecast in Orchard Park on game day project a 52% chance for snowfall at 6 pm so the odds Jackson playing in his first ever snow game are more likely than not.

To put things into perspective the Pompano Beach native’s first experience of snow came in college when he spoke on Tuesday about the snowball fight he had while at Louisville.

“That’s totally different from playing in it,” Jackson said. “But yes, that definitely would be my first-time playing football in the snow – Saturday, if it does. Hopefully, it doesn’t.”

In his third NFL season, second as the fulltime starter, there have been a lot of questions surrounding No.8. “Can be a consistent pocket passer?”, “Can he win big games?”, but the biggest elephant in the room and the most important inquiry left unanswered until recent was his playoff record to start his career.

He notched his first against the Titans and did by coming back from down double digits which answered another question. However, Jackson was not contempt there, using Marcus Peters’ famous line ” We ain’t done yet.”

As if a dominant road playoff win was not enough, critics have turned a new page in the Jackson slander era questioning the quarterback’s ability to play in the snow.

While it is uncharted territory for Jackson, it could add a different sort of element to the Ravens’ ground heavy attack. Offensive Coordinator Greg Roman believes that those kind of playing conditions could potentially give his quarterback an advantage over would be tacklers.

“I think the snow would be much easier for him to deal with than some of the heavy sheets of rain, the torrential downpours we’ve played in the last couple of years,” Roman said. “A nor’easter just happened to blow in when we went to New England. Last year, you guys remember the 49ers game. There was flooding everywhere. Those are the games that really, really impact it. Snow, not so much. Wind, yes, wind can be a major factor.”

Jackson ran for a combined 156 yards on 27 carries in those two games that Roman mentioned in extremely wet conditions including a 101 yard outing against San Francisco.

While all snow is water made solid, a winter wonderland could set the stage for Ravens to unleash their top ranked rushing attack spear-headed by their dynamic dual threat quarterback on a suspect Buffalo run defense.
