Ravens activate CB Marlon Humphrey from Reserve/COVID-19 List

The Baltimore Ravens will be getting their best defensive player and likely team MVP through the first half of the season back ahead of their primetime matchup with the New England Patriots on Sunday Night Football in Week 10.

First Team All-Pro cornerback Marlon Humphrey was activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 List on Wednesday. He was placed on the list last Monday after testing positive for the virus but has fully recovered and is now cleared to return to practice and play in games.

This means the Ravens are no longer in the NFL’s intensive protocol, so they are now permitted to practice and conduct meetings as normal this week. Virtual meetings can now be held in-person and masks and other face coverings aren’t required during practice.

Humphrey signed a five-year extension worth $97.5 million in October and is one of the leading candidates to win Defensive Player of the Year.

In seven games, he has recorded 40 total tackles, one interception, five pass deflections, 2.5 sacks, four quarterback hits, and is tied for the league-lead in forced fumbles with four.

He will likely be following Patriot’s second-year receiver, Jakobi Meyers, all over the field on Sunday especially when he’s in the slot. Meyers is coming off a monster game on Monday Night Football in Week Nine when he racked up 169 yards on 12 catches on the New York Jets.

Meyers is quarterback Cam Newton’s favorite and most trusted target among a much-maligned group of pass-catchers with veteran Julian Edelman out after having knee surgery in late October.

Against Indianapolis, this past Sunday, the Ravens’ other All-Pro cornerback Marcus Peters, veteran Jimmy Smith and former undrafted free agent Terrell Bonds did a great job of holding down the fort on the outside and in the slot with Humphrey out but they are at their best with their best player.
