Ravens activate CB Anthony Averett and promote two practice squad players for Cowboys game

The Baltimore Ravens made a trio of roster moves hours before their interconference primetime matchup with the Dallas Cowboys at M&T Bank Stadium on Tuesday night on FOX/Amazon/NFL Network at 8:05 p.m. ET.

Third-year cornerback Anthony Averett who has been out with a shoulder injury since Oct.22 was activated to the 53-man roster. The team also promoted cornerback Pierre Desir and tight end Eric Tomlinson from the practice squad.

Averett returned from injured reserve this past Friday and was a full participant in the subsequent practices. Desir was officially signed to the practice squad on Nov. 28 after spending the first nine games with the New York Jets where he made eight starts and recorded three interceptions.

With veterans Jimmy Smith and Tramon Williams unlikely to suit up for this game, Averett and Desir will provide additional depth behind the First-Team All-Pro tandem of Marlon Humphrey and Marcus Peters.

Averett was in store for a larger role in the defense before he went down because star nickelback Tavon Young suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week Two.

He and Desir as well as third-year pro Davontae Harris, who shined in his Ravens debut against the Pittsburgh Steelers, will see a lot of playing time against a deep and talented Cowboys receiving core.

Tomlinson and fellow veteran Luke Willson are the only true tight ends on the active roster for this game since starter Mark Andrews is still on the Reserve/Covid-19 list. He made his first appearance with the Ravens last week against the Steelers as well and played 16 snaps.
