Preview: Ravens continue preseason action against Packers

After dominating the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Baltimore Ravens will return to the field to take on the Green Bay Packers in their second preseason contest, which will take place at M&T Bank Stadium on August 15th, 2019. As aforementioned, last week, the Ravens took care of business in Baltimore by ousting the Jaguars by a score of 29-0, which featured an incredible performance from the Ravens front-seven, who created pressure throughout the game which led to four sacks and holding Jacksonville to just 2.1 yards per play. Notably, it will be interesting to see if the Ravens can continue their 14 game win-streak in preseason contests, which started in the 2016-2017 season. For now, the Ravens hold a 1-0 record, while the Packers stand at 1-0 as well. Now, let’s take at Baltimore and Green Bay’s reports from the past week.

Baltimore Ravens Report:

Coming off an obliteration of the Jaguars, the Ravens will stay at home to face the Packers, and will look to get the rookies more playing time as the preseason progresses.

Starting quarterback Lamar Jackson is expected to be under-center for the first quarter, and afterward rookie signal-caller Trace McSorley will handle the majority of the workload, similar to week one of the preseason. McSorley will look to improve off of his disappointing performance last week from a pure passing standpoint, as he completed just nine passes off of 22 attempts for 85 yards and one interception. Another Ravens rookie to watch will be wide receiever Miles Boykin, who has been a standout in training camp, and will likely be given a significant amount of playing time tonight. Last week, the Notre Dame alum caught four passes for 39 yards off of nine targets.

On the defensive side of the ball, linebacker Kenny Young will look to improve off of his four tackle performance from last week. Adding on, a storyline to watch for is how Jaylon Ferguson’s workload will be managed, as he was relatively limited last week despite having a solid performance, generating one tackle for loss.

Green Bay Packers Report:

Last week, the Packers defeated the Houston Texans by a score of 28-26, improving to 1-0 in the preseason. Backup quarterback DeShone Kizer handled most of the snaps under-center, throwing eight completions off 13 attempts for 102 yards and one touchdown. Notably, in tonight’s contest, two-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers will be quarterbacking Green Bay for the entire first quarter. Former Raven linebacker Za’Darius Smith will be making his return to Baltimore, after signing a four-year, $66M dollar contract in the offseason. One Packers player to watch will be rookie scatback Dexter Williams, who was selected by Green Bay in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. The 22-year-old rusher took the ball for 14 attempts for 62 yards in last week’s contest against the Texans.

Score Prediction:

My official prediction for tonight’s game is that the Ravens defeat the Packers by a score of 20-17.
