Preview: Norfolk Tides at Gwinnett Braves

The Norfolk Tides open up a two game series against the Gwinnett Braves tonight. The starters for tonight’s game are Mike Wright (0-0, 0.00 ERA), for the Tides, and Zach Stewart (0-0, 5.40 ERA), for the Braves. Both pitchers are making their second starts of the season for their respect clubs, the first coming against each other.

In the first game, Wright struck out 4, allowed 5 hits and walked 1 in 5.0 innings. The Braves scored 1 unearned run in the 5 innings that Wright pitched. The unearned run came in the second inning when Wright made a fielding error, allowing the first base runner, Phillip Gosselin, to reach in the inning. Gosselin scored from third by the way of a single from Christian Bethancourt into left field.

Zach Stewart’s performance didn’t go like he wanted it to. Stewart allowed 5 hits, struck out 1, 3 runs, all earned, walked 2, and let up 1 home run. The home run came in the bottom of the 5th and was hit by David Adams, giving the Tides a 3-1 lead.

However, that score wouldn’t hold up. The Braves came back to win the game by a score of 4-3, scoring one run in the 6th and scored the 2 winning runs in the 8th. Despite the opposite starts, both pitchers ended with a no decision.

Depending on the weather, Zach Stewart looks to bounce back from his first start as Mike Wright looks to continue his good form tonight at 6:35 in Gwinnett.
