Preview: Bowie State (3-1) vs Winston Salem State (1-2)

The Bowie State Bulldogs look for their fourth consecutive win in their home opener this evening against the Winston Salem State Rams.

This is the 22nd all time meeting between Bowie State and Winston Salem State, and the Rams lead the all time series 15-6, however, the Bulldogs beat the Rams 31-13 last season in Winston Salem, NC.

This time around, Bowie State is coming off of a 32-22 win at St Augustine’s, and Winston Salem State comes off of a 27-19 loss against Virginia Union.

Bowie State comes in first in the CIAA’s Northern division, and leading the conference in yards per game (477) and pass yards per game (359). Bowie State is also the second highest scoring offense in the CIAA, averaging 35 points per game. Leading the way for the Bulldogs is senior QB Amir Hall, who leads the CIAA in yards per game (359), and touchdowns (11). The Bulldogs also have three of the CIAA’s top ten pass catchers with Lansana Sesay (68.5 yards per game, 6th in CIAA), Gilbert Lunsford (78.3 yards per game, 4th in CIAA), and Montez Clay (90.3 yards per game, 2nd in CIAA).

Today the Bulldogs face a Winston Salem State team that comes in fourth in the CIAA’s Southern division. WSSU is not very powerful offensively (they average 16.3 points per game), but more than makes up for it with defense, particularly the rush defense which allows just 128.7 yards per game (4th in the CIAA).
