Philip Grubauer and Brooks Orpik traded to the Avalanche

Just before draft time the Washington Capitals made a deal with the Colorado Avalanche to send goaltender Philip Grubauer and veteran defenseman Brooks Orpik to the Avs in return for the 47th overall draft pick in the second round. A “bidding war” occurred between the Islanders, Red Wings, and Avalanche  that ended in Colorado making the deal stick. The NHL draft is currently underway with the Capitals set to pick at number 31, the last pick of the first round.

Caps release:

The Caps have parted ways with Philip Grubauer and Brooks Orpik as a salary cap dump we wish them nothing but the best with the Avs. In return the caps will get the 47th pick in the draft this frees up 5.5 million in cap space for the Caps so looks like John Carlson and Michael Kempny are gonna be around for awhile as our top D pair. Let’s see what else happens as this is only the start to what is sure to be a wild draft night.
