Pretty Presidential

No, I’m not referring to the election nor the inauguration. This is news that people in the D.C. area will actually be happy about. As you may know, the Washington Capitals had a chance to lock everything up tonight. Home ice throughout the playoffs, the Presidents’ Trophy, the Eastern Conference, and the Metropolitan Division all belong to the Caps. Read the rest of this entry »

No Olympics for the NHL

Late Monday afternoon, the National Hockey League released a statement where it said NHL players could not go to the Olympics in South Korea in 2018. Their main issue (or claim) is that player injury is way too big of a risk, while also not being in primetime television time slots. Read the rest of this entry »

Coyote Ugly

Friday night’s tilt against the not-good-at-all Arizona Coyotes was a pathetic one. Pathetic is a very strong word to use, but I digress. Everyone knew it was a trap game. Arizona came out looking to play spoiler to the top team in the league. They did just that. Read the rest of this entry »

Caps Dispose of Columbus

Thursday night’s matchup between the Washington Capitals and the Columbus Blue Jackets was everything we expected. Low scoring, fast and exciting hockey, and it’s only fitting that the game was decided by a shootout. Read the rest of this entry »

Caps/Jackets Preview

  1. Tonight, the Columbus Blue Jackets are in town. Columbus has had a stellar season, very similar to their hosts, the Capitals. Columbus has a nearly identical record as Washington, coming into tonight’s tilt with a 47-19-6 record.

Their spectacular and somewhat unexpected season has been a total group effort. Ranging from the resurgence of John Tortorella’s coaching, to Sergei Bobrovsky’s brilliant goaltending, to rookie Zach Werenski’s dazzling plays. Columbus has certainly been a fun team to watch, and will definitely be a team to keep an eye on down the stretch.

Washington’s key to victory tonight will be using the same gameplan that they used against Calgary on Tuesday night. Getting pucks on net, being aggressive on the forecheck, and to keep the pressure on them for a full 60 minutes, as this certainly has a playoff-feel to it. If the Capitals can do these things, coming out with a win can be expected.

Caps Top Calgary

Tuesday night at the Verizon Center was another solid performance by the boys in red. Although expected, the Caps played a full 60 minutes. In the opening minutes of the game, the Capitals peppered Brian Elliott with a healthy amount of shots, which was the right way to start a tilt, by putting pressure on Elliott early, forcing him to make saves right off the bat. Caps Aim to Douse the Flames

The Capitals are set to face Calgary on Tuesday night at the Verizon Center, after previously beating the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-3 on Saturday. Tuesday’s matchup will be important, considering the Flames are in a playoff spot as well. Granted they are in different conferences, the matchup should fare pretty well, given that the Flames have playoff potential. Washington enters the tilt with a 46-17-8 record, and will need to score early to build confidence and to keep the train rolling. Keeping Johnny Gaudreau quiet will be one key to victory.

Washington has several ties to Calgary. One of them being the beloved Jay Beagle, who is from the Calgary area. You can be sure he’ll be working extra hard. Also, former Capital Troy Brouwer is back in the headlines for this matchup, considering he was acquired by Calgary from the St. Louis Blues this past offseason. While the Caps are locked into the playoffs, every game is still very important. It’s important that the Capitals keep their foot on the gas pedal for the rest of the season, and heading into the Stanley Cup playoffs.
