There may be no Stanley Cup repeat this year, but the Washington Capitals’ stars are not going anywhere.

The Kids’ Choice Sports Awards in their sixth year have nominated two of the Caps’ best players for the award. The awards are to honor major sports stars and encourage children to lead a more active lifestyle with sports heroes to guide them.

Left-winger Alex Ovechkin is nominated for the inaugural “Best Hockey Player” category. At the first Kids’ Choice Sports in 2014, Ovechkin won the “Sickest Moves” award and has been a regular in that category ever since.

Competing for the award will be his teammate, goaltender Braden Holtby. Holtby was also nominated for the “Hands of Gold” award, the only NHL player to be listed. Hands of Gold illustrates the player best known for using their hand-eye coordination in a game, and is full of NFL wide-receivers and Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts. Both players are considered strong contenders in their respective categories.

The Awards Ceremony is to be held July 11 at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. This year’s host is Super Bowl Champion and current NFL on FOX commentator, Michael Strahan.

The televised broadcast will air August 10 at 8 p.m. on Nickelodeon. You can vote for Ovechkin and Holtby at the link below.
