Orioles take opener in Toronto 4-1: Recap 7/5/19

The Baltimore Orioles visited the Toronto Blue Jays for game one of a three-game set, as Dylan Bundy took the mound looking for his first win since June 4.

Bundy threw a fantastic outing tonight, completing 6.2 innings and allowing just one earned run off three hits, while striking out six.

The Orioles would grab a 2-0 lead in the second, following a solo shot to left-center field by Chris Davis. That was followed up by Jonathan Villar’s RBI single.

Bundy was lights out and would not get scored on until the seventh inning, when he allowed a solo home run. This cut the Orioles’ lead to 2-1.

Richard Bleier threw a good inning of relief, giving up no runs and just one hit. Miguel Castro would record the final out of the eighth to send this 2-1 game into the ninth.

Chris Davis and the Orioles would add a pair of insurance runs in the ninth off some beautiful situational hitting.

Chance Sisco led the inning off with a single, followed by a rare walk drawn by Renato Nunez. Anthony Santander then laid down a beautiful sacrifice bunt, moving the pinch runner Stevie Wilkerson to third and Renato Nunez to second.

Chris Davis would then come in clutch, hitting a line drive single that scored two runs, extending the Birds’ lead to 4-1.

Paul Fry came in for the save and would retire the side in order.

Immediately after the game, the Orioles optioned RHP Josh Lucas to Triple-A Norfolk.

Our MSB Oriole Players of the Game are Dylan Bundy and Chris Davis. Bundy pitched a beautiful game in a stadium where he did not find success last season. Chris Davis would provide the offense, with three RBI and a monster home run, which was his second in three games.

Dylan Bundy earned the win (4-10) and Paul Fry recorded the save (2).

The Birds take on the AL East rival Blue Jays again Saturday at 3:05 p.m. ET.
