Orioles vs Angles Series Recap

Friday 6/29: Orioles- 1 vs Angels- 7

Starting the weekend series off right Mike Trout took a David Hess fastball 408ft to left-center and give the Angels a 1-0 lead after one. The Angels didn’t look back after that, the Angels roughed up David Hess in 5.2 IP, letting up 9 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, & 2 K’s. The Angels offense would later total thirteen hits and score seven runs against the depleted Orioles. The Orioles stayed just about silent on the offensive end until the ninth inning. Leading off the ninth Mancini doubled to right and then Adam Jones followed that up hitting an RBI single to right, scoring the Orioles only run.

Saturday 6/30: Orioles- 2 vs Angels- 6

Waking up from the lack luster performance on Friday night, the Orioles offense came out swinging. Tim Beckham started the bottom of the first by singling to center, Jones followed up doing the same, with two runners on Manny Machado ripped a single to left to score one. With an early 1-0 lead the Orioles offense wasnt done yet, Danny Valencia followed up Machado’s single with a sac-fly scoring Jones and giving the Orioles a 2-0 lead after one.

Andrew Cashner did his job pitching 6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, & 4 K’s. The crazy part is this still wasn’t enough for the birds to come out with a win. Orioles bullpen decided it was there turn to not show up, loading the bases Gives was relived by Tanner Scott and who later allowed all three of Givens baserunners to score and two of his own. Trailing 6-2 the Orioles offense struggled to come back alive after the first inning.

Sunday 7/01: Orioles- 8 vs Angels- 2

Things changed for the Orioles, battling the 96 degree heat the Orioles offense seemed to heat up as well. Getting on the board first, Albert Pujols singled of Kevin Gausman to give the Angles a 1-0 lead after one inning. After the first things changed in favor of the birds, Gasuman dominated on Sunday going 8 IP, 2 ER, & 2 K’s.

Helping Gausman’s phenomenal performance the Orioles offense put on a homerun show for the fans. Machado started the homer show taking Deck McGuire deep to center, going back-to-back Mark Trumbo then also homered to center. Not done yet, the forth inning continued with Wilkerson hitting a RBI double to deep center and Beckham later singling to center to score two more runs. After four the Orioles were leading 6-1 and seemed to be in full control of the game. That they were, Trumbo would homer for his second time and Mancini joined the homer party as well. The Orioles offense would end up having ten hits on eight runs, in turn the Angles chance of sweeping the Orioles was cut short.
