Orioles Sweep Rays In Outstanding Fashion

Today the Baltimore Orioles swept the Tampa Bay Rays to win their first series since 2018. The final score today was five to one. Tommy Malone started today for the Orioles and Yonny Chirinos started for the Rays. Malone pitched five shutout innings to give him a quality start.

Unlike prior games in the series, today the Orioles scored first in the bottom of the third inning. Renato Nunez hits his second home run on the year to give the Orioles a one to nothing lead.

There would be no scoring by either team until the top of the sixth inning. Brandon Lowe would hit his own home run to center field to bring the score even at one to one. Subsequently, Miguel Castro relieves Malone for the Orioles.

In the bottom of the seventh, Hanser Alberto hits a RBI double to bring in Cedric Mullins to break the tie and give the Orioles a two to one lead. Later that inning, Nunez brings in Alberto to widen the lead to three to one. Jose Iglesias further extends the lead with a RBI double to bring in Nunez. After this play, the score is now four to one in favor of the Orioles.

However, the Orioles were not done scoring just yet. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Pat Valaika homers to center field for his first of the season to push the lead to five to one.

The Orioles ended up with twelve hits and no errors in the last game of the series. The Washington Nationals will host the Orioles on Friday evening for a four game series in Washington. The Orioles now sit at second place and one and a half games back in the American League East.
