Orioles Sweep Phillies

The Baltimore Orioles broke out the brooms and swept the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of eleven to four. Thomas Eshelman only gave up two through the five innings that he pitched to earn a quality start for the Orioles.

The Phillies struck first in the bottom of the fourth inning when J.T. Realmuto homered to bring in Bryce Harper to take a two to nothing lead.

The top of the fifth inning was where the Orioles found their footing in the batter’s box. Pat Valaika started off the scoring by bringing in Renato Nunez to cut in to the lead to make it two to one, Phillies. Soon after, Anthony Santander rocketed a ball to the outfield to score three runs to take the lead four to two.

Fortunately for the Orioles, they extended their lead further in the top of the seventh inning. Jose Iglesias hits a double to bring in two runs, at this point the Orioles lead six to two.

The top of the eighth inning would prove fruitful for the Orioles as well. Severino launches a home run to left field to score three more runs. The Orioles lead nine to two up to this point. The Phillies answered right back with a Realmuto home run to eventually score their last runs of the game. Following the home run, the game was nine to four.

The Orioles did not let off the gas offensively in the ninth inning. Ruiz hit his fifth home run to center field to extend the Orioles lead to eleven to four. The Phillies would not come back.

The Orioles were very efficient on offense by scoring eleven runs on fifteen hits with no errors. Furthermore, the Orioles’ defense looked excellent as well. The Orioles look to sweep the series with the Nationals tomorrow evening. Additionally, the Orioles sit only one and a half games behind first place.
