Orioles sign Pearce

200px-Steve_Pearce_on_June_10,_2012The Baltimore Orioles have announced that they have signed Steve Pearce to a major league contract. Pearce was designed for assignment on April 22 to make room for T.J. McFarland.

With Chris Davis being out for some time with an injury the Orioles do not have a true backup first baseman.  Pearce can play first base and the outfield, though I do not think he plays either that well.  Bringing back Pearce is clearly a depth move.

Here is the Orioles press release.
