Orioles sign OF Nomar Mazara to a Minor League deal

The Baltimore Orioles added to their outfield depth by adding outfielder Nomar Mazara to a Minor League deal, the club announced today. Mazara is a seven-year Major League veteran who had a good start to his career hitting 20 home runs in each of his first three seasons.

Mazara started his career with the Texas Rangers and had stints with the Chicago White Sox, Detroit Tigers, and San Diego Padres. Mazara is a career .256 hitter with 85 home runs and 114 doubles. This is clearly a depth move for the Orioles who already have a crowded outfield and top outfield prospects.

I could see Mazara being a player that is called up if a few injuries happen to the outfield. Mazara will likely spend most of the season at AAA Norfolk. Having a veteran down in AAA to help mentor young players that can be brought up and contribute will be positive depth for the Orioles.
