Orioles sign No. 1 overall pick Adley Rutschman to record-breaking deal

The Baltimore Orioles have officially signed the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s MLB Draft, catcher Adley Rutschman, to a record-breaking signing bonus.

Rutschman signed an MLB Draft bonus record $8.1 million deal, passing Gerrit Cole’s $8 million deal at No. 1 overall in 2011.

The Orioles will welcome Rutschman Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. ET. with a press conference and an in-game greeting during the game against the San Diego Padres.

The Baltimore Orioles today announced that they have signed their first overall selection of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, C ADLEY RUTSCHMAN, from Oregon State University. The 2019 First-Year Player Draft marked the second time in Orioles history that the club had the first overall selection in the MLB Draft, with RHP BEN MCDONALD in 1989 being the first.
Rutschman has claimed every major amateur and collegiate baseball award, including being named the winner of the Golden Spikes Award and Dick Howser Trophy. The Orioles will welcome the Sherwood, Ore., native to Baltimore on Tuesday, June 25, with a press conference and an in-game greeting during that evening’s game against the San Diego Padres.
Overall, the Orioles have signed 30 of their 41 selections from the 2019 First-Year Player Draft. The deadline to sign 2019 draftees is Friday, July 12 at 5:00 p.m. ET.
