Orioles recall reliever Kline from Norfolk

The Baltimore Orioles have recalled right-handed pitcher Branden Kline to be the 26th man for the second game of today’s double-header against the Minnesota Twins. Kline will not be available for game one. Between the two games there will need to be a roster move to add Alex Cobb.

On the year, The Frederick, Maryland native is 1-1 with an 8.53 ERA at Triple-A Norfolk. In his minor league career, Kline is 18-18 with an ERA 3.81 and 252 strikeouts in 302 innings.

Kline’s story is one of perseverance as he has had three elbow surgeries at the young age of 27. After growing up as an Orioles fan, Kline was chosen in the second round of the 2012 draft by his favorite team. After learning of his first major league call-up today, Kline became emotional, stating, “I probably cried for about 30 minutes when I got the news.”

Kline will wear number 52 as he lives his dream later tonight.
