Orioles place Karns on Injured List, recall Phillips

The Baltimore Orioles have placed right-handed pitcher, Nate Karns, on the 10-day Injured List due to a strained right forearm. Karns has appeared in four games for the Orioles since being signed to an $800,000 contract this off-season with $200,000 in incentives. Karns missed the entire 2018 season with an elbow injury. He appeared in 5 1/3 innings thus far this season, giving up one un-earned run. He has allowed seven hits and three walks on the season. The Orioles signed Karns to be part of the rotation, but he has been relegated to bullpen duty in an effort to keep him healthy.

To replace Karns in the bullpen for tonight’s game, the Orioles have recalled Evan Phillips from Triple-A Norfolk. Phillips looked strong this spring, pitching 9 2/3 innings and striking out 10. Phillips came to the Orioles from the Braves in the Kevin Gausman / Darren O’Day / Brad Brach trade. Last season in the Majors, he pitched 5 1/3 inning allowing 11 earned runs and walking six. Phillips was born in Salisbury, Maryland and attended the same high school in North Carolina as Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher, Chis Archer.

The Orioles take on the Oakland Athletics in game two of a three-game series tonight at Camden Yards, starting at 7:05 P.M.
