Orioles Overview Week: 5 and 6

It seems like the period of “just wait and see” is over for the orioles. The Orioles bats have shown up, and the pitching has been there at times. The Orioles are 8-3 over the last 2 weeks and are on a 4 game winning streak. The Orioles sit atop the AL east at 19-14, one game ahead of the Yankees.Nick Markakis has been a monster of late for the Orioles. He has the second longest active hit streak, hitting safely in 16 straight games. He also got his first two home runs in the same day, the first of which landed a few seats away from me. (I’m the guy in orange between the guy in grey and the guy with the teal shorts.)
Steve Pearce has also been big for the Orioles since taking over first base. In the nine games he is ten for 33 with three HRs and six RBI. He also hit home runs in consecutive games for the first time in his 302 game career.

Matt “Moneybags” Wieters continues to swing the hot bat. He is currently stuck to DHing until his arm soreness goes away, thankfully that will not require surgery. He continues to increase his value, as he is hitting .323 with five HRs and 18 RBI.

Manny Machado finally made his season debut. Machado has had a tough start, he is only hitting .161. He did get his first hit at home and first home run when he launched a good pitch from Scott Feldman into the Oriole bullpen.
