Orioles Minor League Players of the Week: Parker Bridwell & Michael Burgess

For the second time in the last five weeks, Frederick Keys duo Parker Bridwell and Michael Burgess share my Baltimore Orioles organizational players of the week. Bridwell, a former 9th round draft pick by the Orioles in the 2010 draft, went 2-0 on the week, throwing 13 IP, allowing 7 hits, 2 ER, 4 walks, and collecting 10 K’s.

The #19 ranked Orioles prospect coming into the season, Bridwell is 4-6 with a 4.38 ERA and 74 K’s in 78 IP on the season for the Keys. The 22-year-old righty has 365 career minor league strikeouts in just 416 innings pitched.

Burgess, the Carolina League Player of the Week, went 11 for 22 (.500), with 4 runs, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 3 HRs, 9 RBIs, and a SB for the Keys last week.

The outfielder was selected in the first round of the 2007 draft (49th pick overall) by the Washington Nationals. After spending four years in the Nationals organization, Burgess moved on to the Chicago Cubs, then the Houston Astros, before signing a minor league deal with the Orioles back in February.

The 25-year-old Burgess is enjoying a successful campaign with the Keys, as the outfielder is hitting .319 on the year with 27 runs, 18 doubles, 8 home runs, and 46 RBIs.
