Orioles Minor League Player of the Week: Chance Sisco

Delmarva Shorebirds catcher/designated hitter Chance Sisco is putting up monster numbers this season for the single-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. Despite being just 19-years-old, Sisco is hitting .353, with 21 doubles, 40 runs, and 48 RBIs in 72 games this season for Delmarva.

Over the past week Sisco went 13 for 31 (.419), with 2 runs, 4 doubles, and 9 RBIs. The youngster also tallied at least one hit in every game of the week. While the impressively high hitting numbers might seem to be somewhat of a fluke, Sisco has hit extremely well since becoming an Orioles prospect last summer. Sisco was a 2nd round draft pick out of high school in 2013.

In 33 combined games with the Gulf Coast League Orioles (rookie ball) and the Aberdeen Ironbirds in 2013, Sisco hit .363, with 16 runs and 11 RBIs. According to Baseball America, Sisco was the #10 ranked Orioles prospect following the 2013 season.

Perhaps even more impressive is the 19-year-old catcher’s numbers when runners are on base. This season Sisco is hitting .397 with runners on base and a whopping .437 with runners in scoring position (compared to .305 when the bases are empty).

If there is a particular part of Sisco’s game that might need some work, it would be on the defensive side. Sisco currently only throws out 23% of base stealers.
