Orioles make first round of callups

wpid-2014-08-01-17-46-27-1637083122.jpegThe Baltimore Orioles have started making their first round of September callups. Unlike past seasons the Orioles have only recalled veteran players that will add depth to the Orioles. The Orioles have recalled Kevin Gausman, who is starting today and Evan Meek. The Orioles have selected the contract of Joe Saunders and Kelly Johnson has reported to the club.

Meek and Saunders have both struggled this season but they will add depth to the bullpen. Saunders might get a start during the doubleheader with the New York Yankees. I would be very careful if I was the Orioles about starting Saunders, he has been hit around this season.

The Orioles do not have a top prospect ready to be recalled this season and I can see the same core group of guys getting playing time. The Orioles should have the AL East locked up in a few weeks and could start resting some guys.

Here are the tweets from the Orioles about the moves.
