Orioles leave West Coast with another blowout loss: Recap 6/23/19

The Baltimore Orioles cannot wait to return to Camden Yards, after a brutal road trip on the West Coast.

After being swept by the Oakland Athletics, the Orioles lost today’s game against the Seattle Mariners by a score of 13–3. Baltimore lost three out of four in Seattle, combining for a total record of 1–6 on the road trip.

The Orioles stayed competitive early in game four of the series, as Trey Mancini hit a 417-foot home run in the first inning. The All-Star candidate now has 17 home runs on the season.

After Seattle’s J.P. Crawford tied the game at 1–1 in the bottom of the first with a solo home run, the Orioles retook a 2–1 lead, as Hanser Alberto scored Anthony Santander with an RBI double in the second.

If you thought the Orioles would be in for a competitive game at this point, you were sadly mistaken. The Mariners scored 11 unanswered runs and captured a 12–2 lead by the bottom of the fourth inning.

Gabriel Ynoa started the game for the Orioles but only stayed on the mound for 2.1 innings. The Mariners scored seven earned runs against the right-hander and worsened his record to 0–5 on the year.

Anthony Santander managed to score Dwight Smith Jr. in the top of the sixth inning. Smith Jr. was 2-for-4 with a run scored.

The Orioles finally ended the misery and lost the ball game 13–3. Baltimore drops to 22–56 after a forgettable road trip on the West Coast.

The MSB Player of the Game is Trey Mancini, who went 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored, while hitting his 17th home run of the season.

The O’s take a day off before returning to Camden Yards Tuesday to face an old friend, Manny Machado, and the San Diego Padres.
