Orioles lose game two against Rays 6-3, drop series: Recap 7/2/19

The Orioles looked to even up this three-game set tonight, and despite a ninth inning surge, the Birds would fall to the Rays 6-3.

Asher Wojciechowski, who was just called up from Norfolk, got the start. Wojciechowski pitched 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on five hits and striking out six batters.

In the first inning, University of Maryland alumni Brandon Lowe gave the Rays a 1-0 lead with a solo home run.

Chris Davis would deliver the longball in the third inning, his sixth of the year. This bomb tied the game at 1-1.

The Rays would take the lead back in the bottom of the third at 2-1, when Brandon Lowe drove in another run off a single.

Wojciechowski’s outing would end after he gave up a two-run single in the sixth with one out. This extended the Rays’ lead to 4-1.

Jimmy Yacabonis relieved Paul Fry in the seventh with two outs and gave up a two-run double, further extending the Rays’ lead now to 6-1.

Now in the ninth inning, Orioles catcher Chance Sisco cut the deficit in half to 6-3 with a mammoth home run to right-center field with Trey Mancini on base. However, the Orioles would not add anymore runs in the inning.

Our MSB Oriole Player of the Game is catcher Chance Sisco. Sisco has been red hot, hitting .304 in his last seven games with 11 RBI and adds his third home run in that span, with his late game shot tonight.

Asher Wojciechowski would record his first loss, as the Orioles drop this series.

The Birds wrap up this series Wednesday at 7:10 p.m. ET.
