Orioles look to take series from Red Sox: Lineups and game preview 7/20/19

The Baltimore Orioles are coming off an impressive 11-2 victory over the Red Sox Friday night, and the Birds look to keep their offense rolling, as they attempt to take a series from the Red Sox for the first time in 2019.

Tom Eshelman is getting the start tonight, his third for the Orioles this season. Eshelman enters tonight contest with a record of 0-1 and an ERA of 5.06.

The Red Sox will send struggling Rick Porcello to the mound, who is 7-7 with a 5.37 ERA.

Keys to the game:

1.) Tom Eshelman must keep the ball down against a very good offense. In his first two starts, Eshelman got hit hard when he left the ball over the middle and upper part of the plate. In a park like Camden Yards, those pitches easily turn into home runs.

2.) The offense has to keep rolling. Offering run support to the O’s young pitcher early will pave way for a smoother outing for Eshelman.

3.) Work up Rick Porcello’s pitch count. Among the Orioles line up are a few strike out heavy guys. Taking pitches and working counts will leave a struggling Rick Porcello to play from behind and give the Orioles more pitches to hit.
