Orioles look to pick up win in third game against Yanks: Game Preview 8/13/19

After coming off a doubleheader sweep from the New York Yankees, the Baltimore Orioles look to salvage a game three win in the Bronx.

Although the team scored a combined 13 runs in yesterday’s doubleheader, the pitching did not help the offense enough to pick up a win in either game.

Between the two games played, the “Oriole Killer” Gleyber Torres went a combined 4-for-8, with three home runs, seven RBI, and four runs scored.

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde had this to say about Torres’ success against his team this season.

“I’ve known Gleyber since he was 16 or 17 years old, so maybe it’s something personal that he has. No, he’s obviously a very talented player and he’s going to kill mistakes. He’s just a really talented guy, obviously, that has got a ton of tools and a bright future.”

Today the team will send LHP John Means (8-7, 3.36 ERA) to the mound on National Left-Handers Day. The Yankees will send breakout star RHP Domingo German (15-2, 4.05 ERA).

The Orioles have also made some roster moves prior to tonight’s game. RHP Chandler Shepherd has been recalled from Triple-A Norfolk and will wear No. 62. The team has also optioned RHP Evan Phillips back to Norfolk, and returned Jimmy Yacabonis back as well.

Thing to keep an eye on:

John Means has not been the same starter we have come to know since the All-Star Break. In his four games since the break, Means has a record of 1-4, while giving up 15 runs in that span. Let’s see if Means can perform like his All-Star capable self.

Here is the lineup for tonight’s game against the Yankees:
