Orioles hire hitting coach

Doug Brocail has been tapped to be the new pitching coach for the Baltimore Orioles in 2019. He replaces Roger McDowell who was let go at the end of last season, and served in that capacity for three years.

Brocail comes from the Texas Rangers organization, where he served as their pitching coach since 2016. Prior to that stint, he was with the Houston Astros in two different capacities. From 2011-2013 he was Houston’s pitching coach and then worked as a special assistant to the general manager for two seasons.

Brocail was a major league pitcher from 1992-2009, mostly serving as a reliever over the course of his career (he sustained an injury which kept him out of baseball from 2000-2004), pitching for six different teams.

With this addition, new manager, Brandon Hyde, is inching closer to rounding out his coaching staff.
