Orioles drop eighth straight, lose Mancini to elbow injury

The Baltimore Orioles dropped their eighth straight game and sixteenth straight series Wednesday to the Oakland Athletics 8-3, but the scariest loss was not on the scoreboard.

In the top of the first inning, Trey Mancini, one of the lone bright spots for the team this year, took a high and tight fastball on the elbow that appeared to do some major damage.

Although Mancini’s reaction had Orioles fans nervous, initial X-Rays came back negative with Mancini dealing with a left elbow contusion.

A’s starter Chris Bassitt took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before a Jonathan Villar single broke it up.

Josh Rogers took the loss after pitching three innings and giving up three earned runs. Shawn Armstrong stuggled through an inning, allowing four earned runs. Over the last nine games, the Orioles bullpen has given up a whopping 51 runs.

The MSB Orioles Player of the Game is Jonathan Villar, who went 2-for-5 with a run scored in today’s loss to Oakland.

The Orioles, who have a comfortable 4.5 game lead on the Royals for MLB’s worst record, head to Seattle tomorrow to take on the struggling Mariners.

Dylan Bundy takes the mound for the Orioles. First pitch is scheduled for 10:10 p.m. ET.
