Orioles call up Gunnar Henderson, other roster moves

The Baltimore Orioles have called up their number one prospect Gunnar Henderson, the Orioles announced today. Henderson is widely regarded as the number one prospect in baseball according to several publications.

Henderson started this season at AA Bowie and was promoted to AAA Norfolk and was one of the youngest players at that level. Henderson recently just turned 21 years old.

Henderson has a .297 average, 79 walks and 19 home runs in the minors this season. Henderson’s OPS was .946 all those numbers scream call up.

I think the Orioles should have called up Henderson a little sooner but this is clearly a contract management thing. Henderson will be post season eligible, and the Orioles will receive draft pick compensation if be starts the year on the roster.

Hopefully, Henderson is in the lineup today and starts on the regular.

Here is the Orioles press release.

The Orioles have made the following roster moves:
Selected the contract of INF Gunnar Henderson from Triple-A Norfolk. He will wear No. 2 and his first appearance will be his Major League debut.
Optioned INF Tyler Nevin to Triple-A Norfolk.
Designated RHP Denyi Reyes for assignment.
