Orioles bounce back, Ruiz hits walk off against Astros in 8-7 victory Recap: 8/11/19

The Baltimore Orioles took the field this afternoon, following a horrendous 23-2 defeat in last nights game. Asher Wojciechowski got the start for the Birds.

Asher Wojciechowski pitched well in this game, going six innings, allowing three runs on four hits. Despite a rough three run second inning, Wojciechowski held the Astros to minimal damage keeping his team in the game.

Jace Peterson got the birds on the board in the first, scoring Trey Mancini on a double. The O’s led 1-0

In the second, Carlos Correa connected on a three run homer. This put the Astros ahead 3-1.

Trey Mancini cut the lead to 3-2 in the second, when he singled in Chance Sisco

Jace Peterson came through for the Orioles again, this time scorching a triple to center. Petersons first three bagger scored Pedro Severino and tied the game at three a piece.

Hanser Alberto knocked in a run on a sac fly, giving the Orioles the lead at 4-3.

In the sixth, Trey Mancini would extend the Orioles lead to 5-3 following his second RBI single of the game.

The Astros added one run in the seventh. Jose Altuve’s RBI groundout cut the O’s lead to 5-4.

Mychal Givens ran into trouble in the ninth, as he loaded the bases. Givens then allowed a three RBI triple to put the Astros up 7-5.

As it looked over for the O’s, they rallied in the ninth. Chris Davis knocked in their sixth run on a sacrifice fly.

Now down by two with a runner on, Rio Ruiz had the chance to be the hero. In his second game since being recalled, Ruiz homered for the second straight game, this time walking it off for the Orioles!

Ruiz’s clutch homer won this game for the O’s 8-7. Richard Bleier earns the win and moves to 3-0.

Our MSB player of the game is Rio Ruiz for the second straight night. Ruiz’s game winning bomb not only helped avoid the sweep, but it also sweetened an awful taste all Oriole fans had left in their mouth after Saturday’s blowout.

The Orioles travel to New York on Monday, to take on the Yankees in a double header starting at 1:05 pm ET.
