Orioles blow 5 run lead, lose to Yankees 10-7: Recap 5/20/19

The Orioles lose a heartbreaker to the Yankees in game one of this four-game set.

Andrew Cashner got the start for the Orioles, throwing another solid six innings, allowing three runs off five hits. Cashner did strike out three, but he did also walk two.

Trey Mancini got the scoring started for the O’s in the first with his 15th double of the season, which scored Hanser Alberto.

Pedro Severino followed up with a single to score Mancini. This gave the Orioles a 2-0 lead.

Hanser Alberto would continue his great night at the plate, hitting his third homer of the season, which gave the Os the 3-1 lead.

Renato Nunez got his bat going in the third, hitting the Orioles second home run of the inning to take a 4-1 lead.

Hanser Alberto came through yet again in the fourth, singling in Richie Martin. Later in the inning Dwight Smith Jr. hit a RBI single, extending the lead to 6-1.

Andrew Cashner gave up two runs in the sixth, cutting the Orioles lead to 6-3. Cashner would leave the game after the sixth.

Branden Kline came in relief in the seventh, where he gave up one run. Shawn Armstrong came in after Kline, also giving up a run. This cut the lead to 7-5.

Mychal Givens came on with two outs in the eighth, and it was all downhill from there. Givens let up a solo home run in the eighth to cut the lead to 7-6.

In the top of the ninth, Givens would give up a sacrifice fly, then a three-run homer.

This would prove to be enough, and the Yankees ran away with this one 10-7. Mychal Givens earned the loss (0-1)

The Orioles host the Yankees again Tuesday at 7:05 PM.
