Orioles activate Stinson option Brach

The Baltimore Orioles have activated Josh Stinson from Triple-A Norfolk and have option Brad Brach. The Orioles have also moved Johan Santana to the 60-day disabled list. Stinson started the season on the Orioles opening day roster but struggled greatly out of the bullpen. Stinson will likely be the long man if the Orioles fall behind early.

Santana is done for the season so putting him on the 60-day DL seems like a logical move to open up the spot. Santana tore his achilles in his final extended spring training game. That story can be found here.

Brach has pitched well for the Orioles this season but was extended last night and will likely need a few days rest. The bullpen has been taxed all season.

Here is the Orioles press release.

The Orioles today announced that they have selected the contract of RHP JOSH STINSON from Triple-A Norfolk and optioned RHP BRAD BRACH to Triple-A Norfolk.

Stinson, 26, has gone 0-3 with a 5.19 ERA (26.0IP, 15ER) in nine games (two starts) for Norfolk, striking out a batter per inning.

To make room for Stinson on the 40-man roster, LHP JOHAN SANTANA has been transferred to the 60-day DL.
