Orioles acquire veteran Jake Cave, designate Jake Reed for assignment

The Baltimore Orioles have acquired veteran hitter Jake Cave off waivers from the Minnesota Twins and designate pitcher Jake Reed for assignment, the Orioles announced today. Cave is a veteran outfielder with a .235 average and 33 home runs in five seasons with the Twins.

This is obviously a minor league depth move for the Orioles who have a plethora of capable outfielders. With the likes of Cedric Mullins, Anthony Santander, Austin Hays, Kyle Stowers, and Ryan McKenna along with several high profile outfield prospects there really is not a place for Cave.

Jake Reed pitched in eight games for the Orioles and posted a 6.35 era, Reed had some good showings. I could see Reed coming back as a Minor League free agent and spending next season as a depth arm in AAA, that was essentially his role this season.
