Orioles 25-man opening day roster
The Baltimore Orioles have there 25-man roster set for opening day. The Orioles still have to place several players on the disabled list like Manny Machado and Nolan Reimold. The Orioles have also said that Delmon Young and Evan Meek have made the team, according to their website. Young and Meek have to be put on the 40-man roster first, I expect that move will be coming soon. Troy Patton will be on the restricted list as he will have to serve his 25-game suspension.
The Orioles rule-5 draft pick Michael Almanzar is also injured and will start the season on the disabled list. When Almanzar comes back from the disabled list he has to be on the Orioles roster or the Orioles will lose him.
The Orioles still list Edgmer Escalona and Francisco Peguero on their roster, both of which are hurt and will start the season on the disabled list. Even when Escalona and Peguero come back I doubt they will be on the active roster.
Two Maryland natives made the Orioles team, Steve Clevenger and Steve Lombardozzi.
Here is the list
Starters:
Chris Tillman
Ubaldo Jimenez
Miguel Gonzalez
Bud Norris
Relievers:
Tommy Hunter (likely closer)
Darren O’Day
Evan Meek
Ryan Webb
Zach Britton
Brian Matusz
Josh Stinson
Infielders:
Ryan Flaherty
Jonathan Schoop
Steve Lombardozzi
Catchers:
Steve Clevenger
Outfielders:
David Lough
Nelson Cruz
Delmon Young
Steve Pearce
Josh Stinson and Steve Pearce are two guys that I doubt will be on the roster all season. Stinson had a good spring but there are other pitchers like Kevin Gausman that may push themselves onto the roster later. Pearce is a guy who is below average in the field and has a career .238 batting average with only 17 home runs.
Things can always change before now and tomorrow this looks pretty much set.
