October 17th Round-Up For Division III Maryland Schools

Last night, there were three match-up across Maryland that featured one and/or two Division III programs.  Here are the highlight from them all:

Frostburg State Bobcats VS McDaniel Green Terror – Women’s Field Hockey

Winning for only it’s fourth time all season long, the Frostburg State Bobcats (4-11; 0-3 Capital League) defeated in-state rival McDaniel (2-12; 1-7 Centennial League), 2-1.

Molly Pickard scored both Bobcats goals in the first half.  GK Nicole Leighty saved two of three shots on goal in the victory.

For the Green Terror, GK Paige Ford saved eight of 10 shots and Emily Houska scored the lone Green Terror goal in the second half in defeat.

The Bobcats travel down to Fredericksburg, Virginia Thursday to play Mary Washington (8-6; 1-2 Capital League) (4:00 PM).  Muhlenberg (3-9; 2-5 Centennial League) comes to Westminster Friday night (7:00 PM).

Goucher Gophers VS Hood Blazers – Women’s Soccer

Overcoming a 1-0 first half deficit, the Goucher Gophers (6-7-2; 0-5-0 Landmark Conference) would score two second half goals and defeat the Hood Blazers (8-7-1; 0-5-0 MAC Conference), 2-1.

Blazers F Elien Comhaire scored the game’s first goal in the 42nd minute when her header found the back of the net. GK Rachel Knoebel saved all seven shots she faced in the first half and the Blazers took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Within a span of nine minutes, the Gophers would score twice and GK Erica Bulzomi, starting and playing in her first-ever college game would saved all three shots to give herself a well-earned first college victory.

During the 62nd minute, M Christina Yarrish received a great pass from D Bri Hite and would make a nice move past her defender, eventually drilling the ball into the back-right part of the net to tie the score at 1-1.

Only nine minutes later, F Therese Antkowiak-Tassini would have her shot saved by Knoebel.  Unfortunately for Knoebel, the ball would roll away and M Syd Benedict’s laser shot flew by her to give the Gophers the game-winning goal.

Goucher hosts Scranton Royals (9-2-2; 5-0-0 Landmark Conference) Saturday afternoon (1:00 PM).  Hood travels to Reading, PA to play the Albright Lions (8-5-1; 2-1-1 MAC Conference) Satruday afternoon as well (5:00 PM).

After dropping the first set 25-22, the Salisbury Sea Gulls (15-7; 4-2 Capital League) come back to take the next three sets (27-25; 25-14; 25-21) and defeated the Marymount (VA) Saints (11-11; 3-3 Capital League), 3-1. It was their third consecutive match victory.
