Norfolk Tides Weekly Recap Of 4-15 To 4-21

NORFOLK, Va – Here is the weekly recap for the Norfolk Tides, the Triple-AAA affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles.  Results and stats are as of games played on Saturday, April 21st.

For the week, the Tides went 3-2:

Monday, April 16th – Lost 7-3 at Lehigh Valley

Tuesday, April 17th – Won 6-0 at Lehigh Valley

Wednesday, April 18th – Won 7-4 at Lehigh Valley

Friday, April 20th – Won 5-2 vs Buffalo

Saturday, April 21st – Lost 8-6 vs Buffalo

The game of the week was Tuesday’s 6-0 shut out on the road at Lehigh Valley.  SS Ruben Tejada went 2 for 3, with a double, run scored and a walk.  C Austin Wynns went 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored.  Four pitchers combined on the 5-hit shut out.

Offensive players of the week include CF Joey Rickard, who went 9 for 17 (including going 5-5 on Friday night), 2 doubles, 2 runs scored, 4 RBIs and 2 walks.  SS Ruben Tejada had a 9-21 week with a double, 2 runs scored, an RBI and a walk.  C Andrew Susac went 6 for 13, including a double, a home run, two runs scored, 5 RBIs. He also had a team high six walks (good eye!).

Best performances by pitchers include SP Tim Melville who had pitched in two games this past week with one win. He had 7.1 IP, 6H, 3 ER, 3 BB and 3 Ks.  RP Jhan Marinez saved two games, with 3.1 IP, 0 ER, BB, 2 Ks.

Currently, the Tides are alone in first place (7-6) in the International League South standings, two games in front of both the Charlotte Knights (Chicago White Sox), at 6-9 and the Gwinett Stripers (Atlanta Braves), at 5-8.

Upcoming games this week including completing the final game of their three-game home series against the Buffalo Bisons on Sunday.  Lehigh Valley comes into town for a three-games series Monday through Wednesday.  After a day off on Thursday, the Tides will travel to Charlotte for a three-game series starting on Friday.
