NBA Free Agency through July
The first wave of free agency has gone through and there have been a ton of moves. The biggest move of course has been Lebron James return to Cleveland. The only reason he took a two-year deal is because in 2016 the NBA gets a new TV deal which will increase the salary cap which increases the max contract money.
Carmelo Anthony went back to the New York Knicks on a five-year deal. Anthony got the most money there through the max contract. Anthony also has Phil Jackson running the Knicks now so he may think that winning could be in their future.
The Washington Wizards have made some nice moves in free agency but have lost some key players. They lost Trevor Ariza to the Houston Rockets but gained Paul Pierce in the process. They lost Trevor Booker to the Utah Jazz who was a good role player for them last year. They also gained Kris Humphries in a sign and trade with the Boston Celtics.
Everyone thinks the Miami Heat are going to be much worse without Lebron James but I would disagree. First of all the East is not very competitive with the main contenders are the Chicago Bulls, Toronto Raptors and the Wizards.
A very underrated team this year could be the Charlotte Hornets. They have recently signed Lance Stepehnson who is very good.
In the West I think that the San Antonio Spurs are the best team. The second best team is either the Clippers or Thunder and the Rockets are a serious contender too with James Harden and Dwight Howard.
A huge possible deal in the making is Kevin Love to Cleveland. I think this would be a good deal for the Cavs regardless if they give up Andrew Wiggins or not. It would be better for them if they don’t give him up but it’s not the end of the world if they do for Love. Wiggins has never played a NBA game and Kevin Love who has averaged a double-double per game over his career.
